Agnostic Dad Loses Custody Of Kids
For the last four years Craig Scarberry of Indianapolis has had 50/50 joint custody of his three young children after his divorce. He recently found that his time with his kids would be cut four hours a week and every other weekend. Searching the ruling, he found that Judge George Pancol wrote, "the father did not participate in the same religious training as the mother," and noted that the father was agnostic. With the help of a family law attorney, Scarberry is appealing the judge's ruling.

Mom With Breast Cancer Loses Custody of Kids
North Carolina mother, Alaina Giordano, lost custody of her two children while battling Stage 4 breast cancer. After the diagnosis, the marriage quickly fell apart and a bitter divorce ensued. According to ABCNews.com, Judge Nancy Gordon made the decision based on the fact that Giordano's ex-husband was able to find a job and a house in a good school district, while she lives in North Carolina, jobless and facing cancer treatments. The ruling triggered an outpouring of support from friends, cancer survivors and others who disagreed with the judge's decision. Giordano was ultimately granted permission to have the two children by her side in her final days.

Former Alameda County sheriff's deputy Ryan Silcocks pleads no contest to leaking records
According to authorities, former sheriff's deputy Ryan Silcocks, 41, pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor for illegally helping a woman in a child-custody case in Alameda County. Authorities said Silcocks looked up confidential personal information about Brian Lancaster, who as a result of divorce, is in a custody battle with his ex-wife over their two children. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped two other misdemeanor charges, fraudulent computer access and unauthorized disclosure from a state Department of Motor Vehicles record. Silcocks e-mailed the information to Lesley Regina, a San Ramon family-law attorney that he had a personal relationship with and who is a friend of Lancaster's ex-wife, said Lancaster's attorney Jeff Hubins. Another attorney representing the ex-wife later used the information against Lancaster in family court.

Man Says Ringing Church Bells Led to His Divorce
John Devaney,64, of Narragansett, Rhode Island is filing a lawsuit in U.S. District Court alleging that incessant bell ringing from a nearby Catholic Church led to his divorce. He is asking that the court enforce a noise ordinance against the church. Devaney and his former wife purchased the home 18 years ago. At the time the bells at did not work. However, 6 years ago the system was upgraded to electronically sound the bells. He says the ringing of the bells caused him and his then wife to argue and put them in a bad mood.
